Many of my students ask me which types of pencils used for drawing that give amazing results? I often respond after being quiet for a while.
I take a short break because I try to figure out the purpose of asking the student’s question. By knowing the intention, I mean I try to understand how serious that person is towards his work.
If the person asking the question is not serious about the work, I avoid his question. But someone asks the questions, who is serious about the drawings. Then I try to understand which types of drawing he/she want to create.
It is only after knowing this that I will be able to answer precisely which types of pencils used for drawing.
types of pencils used for drawing
Although there are many types of pencils, mainly three types of pencils are used in drawing.
1- Graphite Pencil
2- Charcoal Pencil
3- Mechanical Pencil
Graphite pencils are used extensively in drawing; these pencils come in different values.
H means hardness, and B implies darkness. H pencil does not break quickly by peeling and is used for line drawing.
HB pencil is suitable for kids to make drawings because the pencil does not break quickly.
B pencils are used for drawing and shading. B comes in different values like 2B, 4B, 6B, etc.
The more the value of b increases, it will darken, but its brittleness will also increase. Brittleness means that it breaks easily.
The charcoal pencil is black, and this enhances the beauty of drawing a lot if you know how to use it properly.
One problem with a charcoal pencil is that it will leave a lot of dirt on the paper if you don’t use it carefully.
Mechanical pencils are used predominantly for line drawing. Apart from this, it is also used to make the drawing’s outline.
It is not considered suitable for shading drawing; instead, you should use a graphite pencil.
